The latest Apple Watch version includes an optional LTE connection. That lets you make or receive phone calls, Messages and other network-enabled features when not in WiFi range. Now Apple will let you connect with your friends in yet another way. The company just announced a new app for watchOS 5 called Walkie Talkie at WWDC 2018 (Apple Worldwide Developers Conference). You can now talk Watch to Watch over cellular or WiFi to your buddies.

The first time you use it, you send a request to your friend, who can then accept or decline it. If they accept it, you can then walkie-talkie them at any time. This watch-to-watch connection works over cellular and Wi-Fi network, and enables you to send short voice messages to friends and family at anytime with an Apple Watch. Once you press to talk, your friend will feel some haptic feedback and then hear your voice immediately. While the call stays active even when both users are silent, there will be a limit to how long it will remain open. The initial timeout for the session is currently set at five minutes without activity, but Apple is reportedly still figuring out the appropriate duration for the feature. Also they added some new features in upcoming Apple watch such as Student ID card, Siri update, Apple Podcasts.

Apple first started talking about a walkie-talkie feature back in 2014, before the Apple Watch launched the following year. But that feature didn’t make its way onto the Apple Watch until now.
